Canon IXUS 75 Review

The Canon IXUS 75 was recently released showcasing a variety of powerhouse features. The digital camera redefines style and power with several great specifications, modes and settings that caters to all types of individuals. Technologically savvy users will enjoy the elegant and slim design while point-and-shoot enthusiasts will appreciate the advantages in terms of image quality, clarity and detail. The IXUS 75 indeed looks promising and very competitive.

The Canon IXUS 75 features 7.1-mega pixel CCD sensors which immediately transmit onto the very wide 3-inch PureColor LCD display. The digital camera sports a very slim and elegant design with a metallic finish and unique accent surrounding the lens. It has 3X optical zoom lens with focal range of 35 to 105 mm in its 35 mm equivalent class. The optical zoom also comes with UA lens. The dimensions of the IXUS 75 are 91.6 x 19.6 x 56.8 mm and weighs only 130 grams. It truly defines a lot of power in such a little package.

The digital camera just like others in the Canon line features the DIGIC III image processor. The image processor works to enhance image quality, reducing start up lags and image noise. Face detection is one of the strengths of the IXUS 75 since DIGIC III instantly assesses and focuses on perceived faces correcting light and exposure. The digital camera also features the iSAPS or Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space technology which ensures that all settings are well-adjusted before capturing photos.

The Canon IXUS 75 has a total of 17 shooting modes plus the unique My Colors photo editing features which allow users to adjust and edit captured images directly on the widescreen display before or after taking shots. As for flash modes, there are three: automatic, off and on. The flash works effectively up to 3.5 meters wide and telephoto range of 2 meters. Red-eye reduction and slow synchro are also available. Aside from the variety of predefined scene modes like Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets, Foliage, Underwater, etc., there are also several settings in My Colors like
Sepia, Black & White, Lighter or Darker Skin Tone, Vivid, etc.

Compared to other predecessors, the Canon IXUS 75 greatly improved in image presentation through the 3-inch LCD screen in PureColor. The display shows more vibrant and well-saturated colors by as much as 30%.

It also has a very wide angle view plus anti-reflective coating. Taking shots at different levels or light conditions does not cause blurs, distortion or image noise. The coating is also protective against scratches and bumps.

Shutter speed and aperture range can be set respectively via the LCD display as well as other settings like ISO sensitivity and speed. Settings can be customized and saved in EXIF format. A playback button is also available for reviewing shots plus shortcut and sharing buttons for quick shifting between modes and settings.

The Canon IXUS 75 digital camera can also record videos at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels or lower at 30 frames per second. The new Time Lapse Movie mode make video recording more versatile by allowing users to record changing scenes and be played back faster in VGA quality. A changing scene like a budding flower which takes over two hours to record can be readjusted and accelerated to four-minute footage. Standard VGA movies and QVGA movies can be recorded at 30 and 60 frames per second respectively with sound.

The complete IXUS 75 package includes the digital camera, camera pouch and wrist strap, USB cable and AV output, user CD and manual, rechargeable Li-Ion batteries and battery charger.

Pros: The Canon IXUS 75 has a very stylish and slim design and conveniently lightweight. Photo and video capturing also resulted to very crisp and well-detailed images. Several powerful specifications and the variety of settings and modes make it a very useful and quality digital camera. Response and shutter speeds are also fast.

Cons: The digital camera lacked an optical viewfinder.

Overall: There is no great disadvantage to the Canon IXUS 75 and it appears to be one digital camera to beat among others in its class. The detailing and features are above average. Users who are looking for a classy camera which provides high quality images will definitely find the IXUS 75 all worth the investment.
