Default Canon Powershot A570 IS

Canon Powershot A570 IS Review

The Canon PowerShot A570 IS was released together with the A540 which featured improvements in image processors, image quality and image sensitivity. The digital camera also came with several buttons and modes for manual setting and management. This may tend to be a challenge for both novice and advanced users alike. Novice users can easily point and shoot the camera with automatic options while more meticulous and explorative individuals can enjoy the wider range of control. The PowerShot A570 IS promises to improve casual photography.

The Canon PowerShot A570 IS features the unique DIGIC III image processor which quickly provides a variety of image stabilization and enhancing effects. Face Detection AF/AE/FE and Noise Reduction Technology are just some of the special modes that allow user clearer and more detailed photos. The Face Detection system is very efficient and accurate making use of a series of algorithms to instantly focus on faces regardless of distance or size. Users will most likely enjoy the increased number of faces that can be focused as well as the automatic main subject detection. The PowerShot A570 IS can quickly focus on a maximum of nine faces plus evaluates the main face that should be focused on.

The Canon PowerShot A570 IS’s flash also works together with the Face Detection Technology to correctly expose faces especially the main one. Red-eye correction is possible during playback or upon taking the shot. As for Noise Reduction, the A570 IS can safely use ISO 1600 without blurring edges and disrupting contrast of objects and backgrounds. This is a pioneer capability for the A-Series. The higher ISO sensitivity capabilities function to control light conditions which make great shots whether the user is capturing images in very dark areas. Shutter speed is also increased to work together with the ISO settings. Images in shadowed areas appear more detailed and vivid.

The Canon PowerShot A570 IS has 4X optical zoom lens which make use of unique Canon optics to translate images clearly and in full detail from the sensors having 7.1 mega pixels. The digital camera has an optical image stabilizer which allows stable and resolute shots even under poor light, with shaky hands or when focusing on fast-moving objects. The PowerShot A570 IS has a 2.5-inch LCD screen with playback capabilities. The screen has 115,000 effective pixels and is made of Amorphous Silicon. The drawback was its lack of wide-angle view.

As for modes, the Canon PowerShot A570 IS has several such as Indoor, Night Snapshot, Kids and Pets, Landscape, Special Scene and the like. Settings can be either automatic or manual. Overall, the digital camera has 19 shooting modes including the special Underwater mode which is very functional with the waterproof case add-on. Shutter speed and aperture range are descent and can also be manually set. The PowerShot A570 IS also has an optical viewfinder which improves the clarity and detail of images and landscapes. The optical range is limited but stabilization is definitely a big plus. Taking photos and movies with the digital camera produced great and high-quality images.

The Canon PowerShot A570 IS can be connected via a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed cable which is included in the package. It also has an AV out and supported PictBridge for instant printing of pictures. The digital camera is compatible with SD, MMC and SDHC memory cards with 16 MB provided with other accessories. Other add-ons include a carrying case, AC adapter, strap, user manual and CD. The total weight is 175g including the two AA Alkaline or Ni-MH batteries. The A570 IS measures 92 x 64 x 43 mm.

Pros: Casual shooters may find the camera favorable for its good quality images and variety of shooting modes. The price tag of the camera is very reasonable. Other features like image stabilization plus the powerful specifications of the optical zoom lens, optical viewfinder and sensors make the Canon PowerShot A570 IS a great and versatile digital camera.

Cons: The digital camera does tend to increase in image noise when ISO settings are set higher. It seems that the Noise Reduction feature did not merge well to make ISO 1600 easy to handle. The screen was also average and would improve with a wider angle of view.

Overall: Despite flaws in noise and minor insufficiencies with regards to the screen, the Canon PowerShot A570 IS proves to be one great and cost-effective digital camera. Several features and settings of the camera make it an instant favorite among regular point-and-shooters as well as those who want to manually detail their capture images.
