Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd Review

The Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd was made with the young, hip, and technically savvy in mind - dubbed as the Generation-“Z”. It combines today’s popular trends in style and fashion with the latest digital camera technology to give a stylish camera that makes taking pictures and sharing them as easy as pressing a button.

The 7.2 megapixel FinePix Z10fd is light and compact with its dimensions of 91.2(W) x 56.55(H) x 18.75(D) mm and weight of approximately 110g. This portable feature of the Z10fd makes it easy to carry around and it comes in an array of irresistible vibrant colors of Hot Pink, Sunset Orange, Wave Blue, Wasabi Green, and Midnight Black.

The Z10fd’s high resolution 2.5”LCD makes for easy viewing of photos and slide shows. It allows for a micro thumbnail view and navigation of up to 100 thumbnails in a 10 x 10 display. It also carries a 3x optical zoom and a built-in flash that can adjust the light intensity used for a shot by detecting the amount of light in the scene. Fujifilm calls it the I-Flash or Intelligent Flash and it helps to capture a balanced picture, rather than a picture shocked with light. The Z10fd can also take two successive shots of a scene in the Dual Shot Mode. One is shot with flash and the other is without to give you the flexibility of choosing which photo is best.

Another amazing feature of the Z10fd is its flexibility to shoot in just about any condition. The Special Scene Modes are a one-touch feature that allows you to match the shooting mode with the scene you are capturing. Aside from the customary Auto, Portrait, and Landscape Modes, you can set it to other modes where its name stands for its specific function. For instance, the Sport Mode is used for capturing moving objects, Night Mode for shooting in dimly lit or night scenes, and Flower Mode for zooming in and capturing vivid details of your subject.

The Z10fd has an internal memory of 54MB and an xD/SD/SD-HC media compatible slot that allows for the use of either ultra compact xD picture cards or standard and high-capacity Secure Digital (SD) memory cards. This versatility lets you choose the media suitable for you and gives more compatibility for more applications.

With its innovative one-touch Face Detection Technology, taking pictures with the Z10fd takes the point and shoot concept to a whole new level. It can identify up to 10 faces within a frame and automatically adjust the focus and exposure to ensure clear and sharp pictures – be it taken in brightly-lit or back-lit scenery. An added feature, the Red Eye Removal system, detects and eliminates red eye automatically. This does not only ensure the best possible shot each time, but also saves you the time correcting it after the picture has been uploaded to your PC.

The Z10fd also makes it easy for you to share and transfer your photos with family and friends with its IrSimple™ Wireless Transfer. Instead of taking multiple shots of a single scene with different cameras, this infrared technology makes it possible to take just a single shot and transfer it to any device fitted with IrSimple™ Wireless Transfer.

The Blog Mode in Z10fd makes it easier to post pictures in blogs, e-mail, and websites. This entertaining feature allows you to resize an image right in the camera with just a touch of a button. It saves a copy of the high-resolution image and saves another smaller 640x480 VGA or 320 x 240 image - perfect for uploading to blogs and websites. The Auction Mode, on the other hand, allows you to stitch images together into a single image for easier upload to auction sites such as eBay.

PROS: The Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd is truly made for the Generation-“Z” crowd mainly because of its looks and entertaining features, such as the slideshow with music, IrSimple™ Wireless Transfer, and the Blog and Auction modes. Its added features of Face Detection, Red Eye Reduction, and I-Flash make every photo similar to those taken by a pro. For a compact camera that packs so many features, the Z10fd is easy to use and perfect for casual shooting or any budding hobbyist.

CONS: For any serious fashionista, the real downside of the Z10fd is that it does not come in more color variants. What about red, purple, or the classic metallic hues of silver and gold? But then again, if you’re not so big on looks, Z10fd’s stiff slider and its lack of a view finder - maybe some points you might want to consider.

Overall, the Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd is a great buy! Its Great looks, durability, and high-quality performance is worth every cent. And the resulting enjoyment that you’ll get when using this is definitely a bonus.
