Default HP Photosmart R707 5.1MP Digital Camera

HP Photosmart R707 5.1MP Digital Camera Review

The Photosmart R707 is a good addition to HP’s brilliant digital cameras. R707 has the HP Adaptive Lighting Technology which can bring out details of dark areas. By adjusting some of its features in an automated manner, dark areas will be brightened up. It has a panoramic preview and can reduce red eyes. This digital camera also provides on-screen help for image quality improvement and photo technique. It can filter noise prior to processing so as to make image noise minimal. Image vignetting is automatically corrected by this digital camera. It has a default hyper focal focus.

In stainless steel, it weighs 7.5oz. This includes the batteries. It has dimensions of 3.78 x 2.36 x 1.38 inches. It is equipped with 5.1MP sensor and a built-in 32MB memory with additional SD/MMC card slot. Optical lens is 3x and digital zoom is 8x. It is capable of in-camera charging and comes with Li-ion battery. R707 gives the users four quality settings:

- super high quality (very low compression JPEG)
- high quality (low compression JPEG)
- medium quality (medium compression JPEG)
- high compression JPEG.

With its focal length ranging from 8mm to 24mm (approximately 39-117mm lens of a full frame 35mm camera), the lens is a 3x optical zoom that has a max aperture of f 2.8 (wide) and f 4.9 (long end). There are lots of choices for shooting modes. You can choose from auto, action, landscape, portrait, beach and snow, sunset, aperture priority, panorama, document, my mode for custom settings and video that consumes 30 frames per second memory capacity.

For the ISO settings, there are 100, 200, 400 and auto. Auto mode may be biased to ISO setting that is slower.

White balance has six modes, These include auto, sun, shade, tungsten, fluorescent and manual for custom. Pretty good white balance performance is what R707 can give the user.

In Auto-focus modes, there are normal (0.4m to infinity), macro (0.18 to 0.5m), infinity and manual. R707 is fixed with color LCD with 119,548 pixels (494 x 242). It has a sharp and clear screen. It has different brightness settings such as low, medium and high. More power is consumed when the display is brighter. Use of brighter settings should be done wisely. In addition to the LCD screen, R707 is equipped with an optical viewfinder. But the optical viewfinder lacks diopter adjustment.

Almost everything is in the data display. There you will know your battery condition, remaining shots, setting of image quality, setting of ISO, setting of white balance, mode of adaptive lighting, mode of shooting, speed of shutter and aperture. While playback mode displays filename, size, data and time. The images can also be zoomed to 140x. When the battery is very low, it automatically turns off the LCD display for energy conservation. The conserved energy is then used only for shooting.

Flash modes:

- auto
- red-eye reduction
- flash on
- flash off
- night

The recycle time of the flash is 6 seconds. The range of the flash is from 2.7m to 6m (wide setting) and 1.5m to 3.25 (tele setting). The flash is ISO setting dependant.

R707 takes almost 2 seconds from turning the power on to being ready for capturing images. The lens takes 1.25sec to extend. You can shoot 4 shots in about 1.5 seconds (5megapixel jpeg, low compression). It will take around 45 seconds to store the images to its memory. Lowering the quality settings and resolution still gets you 4 shots, but with faster memory storage.

There’s more!!! R707 have other features like adding an audio file to an image. The audio may be added while the shot is being taken or right after capturing the image. In addition, this digital camera has a built-in video mode! Start shooting your video without going through the menu.
