Kodak Easyshare V1003 Review
Kodak’s EasyShare V1003 was designed as much for fashion as well as performance. It comes in a wide range of colors to match your outfit, including colors like White Glaze, Cosmic Blue, Pink Bliss plus solid silver and black. The look is clean and classy, with a pop out lens rimmed in silver. The camera is 4.1 x 2.1 x 1 inches, pretty light at 5.6 ounces and comes with a card and battery. Basically a point-and-shoot camera, the V1003 has a 3x Kodak Retinar lens with a focal length of 36 to 108mm. Other features include a built-in flash, mic, and an AF Assist lamp/video light. At the rear of the camera, you will find a 2.5-inch LCD monitor at 154K pixels. To the screen’s left are five buttons: use them for deleting images, adjusting the flash, reviewing your snaps and the share button, and accessing the menu. Use the share button to flag your shots for easy downloading. Note the right side of the screen where you will find a joystick and a wide/tele toggle switch that lets you navigate the menus. You can adjust choices for macro/landscape, or change the display into grid lines or a histogram. Interesting that it also features a function for exposure compensation. You can navigate the menu to access Favorites, Movie and main mode settings (auto and your choice of 22 scenes modes including custom and panorama) using the three keys at the top, near the shutter button. You can keep as much as 32MB of pictures in its internal memory by using the Favorites key. The power indicator functions rather simply as well: when you’re charging, you will see the three main keys on top lit up in blue. You’ll know when you’re fully charged when you see all three keys lit up. Using the V1003 is as simple as loading a card, charging the battery and setting your sights on what you want to shoot. You can use the EasyShare software to e-mail or print pictures when you connect the camera to your computer. Note the A/V output on the right, and the DC input on the left. At bottom you will find the battery compartment and SD card slot. You can connect the camera to Kodak’s very printer docks like the G610 if you want to make 4 x 6 prints. A summary of V1003 features:
Cons: It’s a basic package consisting of camera, AC adaptor, battery, USB cable, strap, and a plastic tool that attaches the camera into a compatible docking device. Be careful about using the EasyShare Ver. 6.2 software, if you don’t want it to be your default viewer in viewing images on your computer. If you want to watch the videos on your TV, you need to get an optional dock that is not included in the device. Overall: Fun, simple, definitely not over the top. Makes a good accessory (and a functional one at that) if you want your stuff to match your outfits. Use it for impromptu shoots with friends and family, not for serious photographic shooting sprees. |
