Olympus FE-240 Review
The Olympus FE-240 digital camera is another addition to the point-and-shoot FE series of Olympus. The camera features an attractive slim design, user-friendly controls and great quality images. The FE-240 has very modern specifications as well as settings and modes which help novice users get great pictures. The digital camera also incorporates the new Bright Capture option which is a first among the FE series. The Olympus FE-240 has great magnification capabilities with a 5X optical zoom lens which clearly takes close-up shots. The lens may be state-of-the-art but Olympus got away well housing all of it into a relatively slim and elegant metal body that comes in either black or silver. The Olympus FE-240 fits easily in pockets and is very lightweight. The entire digital camera measures 91 x 55 x 17 mm and weighs a mere 3.7 oz without the batteries. The FE-240 has 7.1-mega pixel CCD sensors which help transmit images from the powerful zoom lens. The camera comes power-packed with several helpful features that aim to cater to beginners and casual point-and-shooters. There is a thorough Help Guide as well as a tutorial guide for shooting images showing all the necessary tips on getting good light and avoiding discoloration and image noise. The shooting guide also automatically provides the needed settings as it tutors users in order to show the advantageous effects of shifting into a certain mode or setting. The Olympus FE-240 has Digital Image Stabilization or DIS which is similar with other digital camera models in its class. The DIS provides enhanced clarity and detail in pictures. Fast-moving objects can be effectively focused on with fast shutter speeds and high ISO settings. Users with shaky hands or focusing on action result to smooth and vivid photos without the risk of having blurs, image noise and discoloration. Should there be any presence of image noise or blur after the photo is taken, the Olympus FE-240 also has a DIS Edit function allowing users to correct image blurs directly on the camera screen. The DIS Edit makes use of a gyro sensor to enhance and detail camera action. As for controls, the FE-240 has a number of buttons with single functions each labeled accordingly for the convenience of starters. All these include image shooting, reviewing, deleting, playback and zoom. There is also a four-way controller wherein the different modes can be activated such as the flash, macro mode and self-timer. Furthermore, the Olympus FE-240 digital camera has the Bright Capture feature which help users get quality images in poor light conditions with a variety of scene modes. The Olympus FE-240 incorporates the TruePic TURBO image processor to master color and tone of pictures. Starting the digital camera is relatively fast as well as the shutter speed and playback. The camera has a micro-smoothing feature that acts together with the CCD sensors to provide very detailed and clean photos. In total, the FE-240 has 16 shooting modes as well as video recording capability which stores movies in AVI Motion JPEG format. All images and movies can be shown on the 2.5-inch LCD screen that allows up to 10X of playback zoom. The Olympus FE-240 is powered by a Li-42B Lithium-Ion cell battery. It has a built-in storage capacity of 20 megabytes and can also support xD memory cards. The entire package includes the battery, battery charger, user’s manual and CD, camera pouch and strap, USB cable and AV output. Other accessories and add-ons are also available for purchase. Pros: The Olympus FE-240 is very easy to use and captures great quality images especially in poor light conditions. The zoom lens is powerful and the image stabilizing features like the DIS and TruePic TURBO image processor help a lot in the camera’s speed and detail. Cons: Settings and controls are all automatic. Users cannot specifically choose a variety of options and settings for their point-and-shoot experience. Overall: The Olympus FE-240 digital camera is a great buy for beginners and novice users. The design is very elegant plus it houses a lot of powerful specs. It captures decent images and has great advantage in terms of light and detail.
